When I was a kid I was told that the 3 branches of government do the following things.
The legislature writes the law. The executive office enforces the law. The judicial branch interprets the law.
Here's how it works now.
The legislature writes the law. The executive office interprets then enforces the law along the lines of their interpretation. The judicial branch either supports the interpretation of the executive or is accused of terrorist sympathy.
Recently a judge has declared that the president has broken the law. But is the Bush administration going to cease breaking the law? No. They are allowed to continue in their behavior until a higher court is consulted.

This would seem like an excellent topic to discuss: the need for secrecy in security vs the importance of a free press
(prompted by Denny Hastert's verbal attack on the NY Times and Senator Jim Bunning's suggestion on Fox News that the people responsble for writing and publishing the article on the government's SWIFT program be tried for treason.)

Olá! Chamo-me Stephanie. I was so excited to find this community, because I adore Brazilian pop culture, but I was disappointed that no one's ever written in it. I hope that no one minds if I just go ahead and post. I'm a huge fan of Brazilian music, discovered the Tribalistas during a study abroad year in Portugal, and the interest expanded from there. I found a copy of Os Mutantes 'Everything is Possible!' a few months ago, and after reading the description on the CD case, I thought, oh, I must own this. They've since climbed high on my list of favorite bands, their music always puts me in a good mood. Community #1 1. Name: You Can Make It Happen Link: http://community.livejournal.com/_take__action_/ 2. It talks about getting involved and volunteering. 3. Quote #1 was wondering if anyone had any experience with ISV (International Student Volunteers). I am looking into volunteering and traveling with them next summer and wanted to know if anyone had any experiences to share (good or bad). Is the cost worth it? Which country did you go to and what projects were you working on? What was the "adventure travel" like? Quote #2 It is a community for the purpose of taking action and spreading awareness about Uganda. Please come and help! Leave a comment |
